Zine Making Workshop on Ukrainian Biographies
with Artist in Residence Yvonne Engelhardt
Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own zine inspired by Ukrainian family histories. Guided by artist Yvonne Engelhardt, we’ll use old photos, letters, postcards, and other meaningful materials to explore storytelling through collage.
You’ll learn how to saddle-stitch your pages into a completed zine. Finished zines will be added to the Ukrainian Zine Library, and each participant will also take home a copy of their work.
This workshop invites conversation and reflection. Whether your family history is Ukrainian or connected to a Ukrainian story in some way, you’re welcome to take part. We’ll also have access to the Ukrainian Library at SVI for those interested in using reference materials.
Please bring: old family photos, documents, or materials related to Ukraine (e.g. postcards, maps, packaging). Additional supplies will be available.
Cost: $40 (Check back soon for registration)
About the artist:
Yvonne Engelhardt is a visual artist and art therapist from Germany. As artist in residence at SVI, she is travelling through North America as part of a research and art project exploring her own Ukrainian family history — shaped by displacement, migration, and love. Her work examines themes of identity and belonging, and during her residency she is gathering personal stories from Ukrainians in the diaspora to reflect in her upcoming artist book.
