Ukrainian Heritage Month in Ontario

Showcasing Ukrainian culinary heritage this September through exhibitions, publications, and INSTITUT programming, St. Volodymyr Institute (SVI) is Toronto's home for Ukrainian culture — library, archive, art, language classes, and more (@institut.to). Home to a student residence and 10+ Ukrainian-Canadian organizations.

Ukrainian Heritage Month in Ontario was officially proclaimed through the Ukrainian Heritage Month Act (Bill 215), which received Royal Assent on December 19, 2024.

Each September, communities across Ontario recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, and contributions of Ukrainian Canadians through educational, cultural, artistic, and community initiatives.

This year's theme, Culinary Heritage of Ukraine, highlights the traditions, regional diversity, and cultural significance of Ukrainian cuisine while recognizing the important role food plays in preserving heritage, strengthening communities, and sharing Ukrainian culture with future generations.

The project is an initiative of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Ontario Provincial Council (UCC-OPC), led by Liliya Gulych, Chair of the Ukrainian Heritage Month in Ontario Committee.
